Choose an input method deliberately

What to evaluate Whether movement and aiming feel more predictable to you.
Custom remapping
What to evaluate Whether it changes only bindings or actually provides the movement behavior you want.

A short movement test

  1. Open the in-game controls menu and check the settings available in your installed build.
  2. In a safe area, move, attack and retreat using your chosen input method. Check whether the commands overlap in a way you find uncomfortable.
  3. Try a supported controller if you already own one. Compare the same actions before committing to a long session.
  4. If you report the issue, specify the platform, input device, current bindings and the exact action that went wrong.

Do not confuse a remap with native WASD support

A mapping tool or mod can introduce a different control scheme without the game providing native movement support. Avoid unknown executables and back up personal data before experimenting. On handheld PC, Steam Deck has a separate on-screen keyboard limitation.

Give your setup room to work

Keep a ranged weapon and useful active abilities in your loadout planner so the plan is not entirely about staying in melee range. If the problem is a crash or disconnect rather than control feel, use PC troubleshooting. The beginner guide covers the slot changes.

Plan the rest of your session

Supported platforms: Compare the supported PC and console versions, native Mac and mobile availability, Steam Deck status and online multiplayer requirements.

Couch & mixed co-op: Choose local, online or mixed co-op, and check the hero account and party capacity before gathering everyone on one device.
